CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
A. Background
of The Observation
Everyone
needs education as their life’s guidance. Education has an important role for
improving and building students’ skills and abilities. Education gives many
benefits for the students. One of them is students can improve their skills and
abilities through teaching learning process. Education not only improves
students’ skills and abilities but also gives students knowledge and
characters. With education, students will be ready to face real life and
working world.
Nahdlatul
Ulama University of Purwokerto is a university institution that has vision
namely “To become a superior university
in producing human resources and the development of science and technology
based on Islamic values, local wisdom and global outlook”. Therefore,
Nahdlatul Ulama University always improves academic field and non-academic
field to be a university that has quality in implementing Tridarma of
university and producing candidates of English teachers. Nahdlatul Ulama
University will also prepare university students to be ready in facing working
world and globalization era.
Nahdlatul
Ulama University has two faculties. They are Faculty of Science and Technology
and Faculty of Social, Economic, and Humanities. One of the majors that includes
of Faculty of Social, Economic, and Humanities is English Education Department. English Education Department will be a
major that produces many candidates of English teacher. Therefore, university
students of English Education Department not
only get theory but also have to practice what they get from teaching learning
process. One of the programs that supports university students to practice
namely Internship Program.
Internship
program is a program that requires university students to observe English
teacher in teaching learning process. Internship Program is conducted by
university students of semester 5. Internship program is conducted to; 1) Know
real teaching learning process at school. 2) Build the candidate of English
Teachers’ foundation as teachers’ identity. 3) Strength the academic
competencies.
B. Purpose
of The Observation
The
Observation has some aims namely:
1.
Adding understanding about teaching learning process at
school.
2.
Knowing the real
condition of teaching learning process at school.
3.
Knowing
methods and techniques that are used by teacher in the teaching learning
process.
C. The
Reason of Choosing The School
There are
some reasons why the observer chooses SMK Sriwijaya 2 Wangon as place of
observation namely:
1.
SMK Sriwijaya
2 Wangon is the newest school in Wangon.
2.
SMK Sriwijaya
2 Wangon has many teachers who have high quality in English.
3.
SMK Sriwijaya
2 Wangon is one of schools in Wangon that supports students to master English.

II
THE
RESULT OF OBSERVATION
A. The
Information of The School
SMK
Sriwijaya 2 Wangon is located in Jln. Raya Wangon-Cilacap KM 1, Kecamatan Wangon,
Kabupaten Banyumas, Provinsi Jawa Tengah. SMK Sriwijaya 2 Wangon is a private
school in Wangon. SMK Sriwijaya 2 Wangon accredited B. SMK Sriwijaya 2 Wangon
uses curriculum 2013 in teaching leraning process. SMK Sriwijaya 2 Wangon has
three majors namely TKJ, AKT and TKR. SMK Sriwijaya 2 Wangon also has 30 teachers.
B. The
Information of The Teacher
The teacher
that had been observed was Ibu Sumiyati, S.Pd.
She is an English teacher in SMK Sriwijaya 2 Wangon. She teaches English
in grade X, XI and XII. She also teaches Kewirausahaan in grade X. She has been
English teacher in SMK Sriwijaya 2 Wangon since 2015. She is from Banteran,
Kecawamatan Wangon, Kabupaten Banyumas. She graduated from Galuh University of
Ciamis. Ibu Sumiyati had ever joined a national instructor of English
teacher in Yogyakarta. She not only
teaches English but also Kewirausahaan in SMK Sriwijaya 2 Wangon.
C. The
Date and Time of The Observation
The
observation was conducted on Thursday, January 23 2020. The observation had two
sessions, the first session at 08.20 am – 10.35 am and the
second session at 10.35 am – 11.55 am. The first section was conducted in the
class X AKT A and the second section was conducted in the class X
AKT B.
D. The
Observation Result
The
observation focused on the teacher in the teaching and learning process in the
classroom. As the observer mentioned before, the observation had been conducted
in two sessions. The two sessions were in different classes but in the same
topic. The topic was about asking and giving direction. The first session, the
observer joined the teacher in the class X AKT A and the second session, the
observer joined the teacher in the class X AKT B. The results of the
observation as follow:

In the fisrt session, the
teacher taught class X AKT A. Class X AKT A consists of 15 students but when
the observer observed the class just 10 students presented in the class. In the
class X AKT A, the teacher taught students about asking and giving direction. The
teacher opened the class by saying Salam and reciting Basmalah together. After
that, the teacher checked the students attendance. The teacher asked the
students who students did not present in the class. The
teacher told the students about material today. The teacher would teach the
students about asking and giving direction. The teacher explained the material
cleary. Then, the teacher asked the students to make a group consisted of 5
members so there are two groups in the class. All of the grous consisted of 5
members. After that, the teacher gave every group a LKPD (students’ worksheet).
The teacher asked students of every group to pay attention for the LKPD. The
teacher also asked every group some questions that related to the
LKPD. The students answered the teacher questions excitedly. The teacher aksed
every group to do the LKPD. The teacher gave the students 20 minutes to do the LKPD.
After all of the groups had done the LKP. The teacher asked every group to
present their discussion result in front of the class. Every group would write
their answer on the white board. After all of the groups wrote their answer on
the white board, the teacher checked their answer and if there was wrong answer
the teacher would correct it. The teacher also gave reward for the group that
had the most correct answer. After that, the teacher asked the students some
questions to make sure the students’ understanding about the material. Before
the teacher closed the class, the teacher gave student a homework. The teacher
closed the class by reciting Hamdalah together.
b.
The
Interactions
The interactions among the teacher and the students
in the class X AKT A were life and intents. When the teacher asked students
questions, the students immediately answer the questions well. When the teacher
gave the students instructions, the students would also do the isnstruction
well. In the class X AKT A, the students are interested to follow the class.
Sometimes, some students asked the teacher when they were still confused about
the material.
c.
The Use of
Language
In the class X AKT A, the teacher did not use 100% English. In the
teaching and learning process, the teacher used English and Bahasa Indonesia. In percentage, it was 30% the use
of English
and it was 70% the use of Bahasa Indonesia. The teacher
used English when she gave instruction. The teacher also used English in the
opening and closing of the teaching learning process. For the explanation, the
teacher used Bahasa Indonesia because the teacher wanted the students understood
the material clearly.
d.
The Time and
Classroom Management
In the class X AKT A, the amout of the time was 80 minutes. The teacher managed the time full for teaching
effectively. The teacher used almost 80
minutes for teaching, only several minutes divided for opening and closing the
class. The teacher could also manage the class very well so students of X AKT A
would not be bored. They were still interested to follow the teaching learning
process because the teacher managed the class very well.

the observer observed the class just 18 students presented in the class. In the
class X AKT B, the teacher taught students about asking and giving direction. It
was the same topic with the first session namely the class X AKT A. The teacher
opened the class by saying Salam and reciting Basmalah together. After that,
the teacher checked the students’ attendance. The teacher asked the students
who students did not present in the class. The teacher told the students about
material today. The teacher would teach the students about asking and giving direction.
The teacher explained the material cleary. Then, the teacher asked the students

In the comparison between
the class X AKT A and X AKT B above, the teacher taught the two classes very well. The topic was the same
namely asking and giving direction. The teacher explained the material in the
two classes very well. The students of the class X AKT A were active enough.
Sometimes, they asked some questions to the teacher when they were still
confused about the material. They could also response the teacher’s instruction
immediately. However, the students of X AKT B looked passive. They did not want to ask a question. They also did answer the
teacher’s questions. The teacher taught the two class by using the same media namely LPKD
(Students’ worksheet). In the use of
language, the teacher used English and Bahasa Indonesia in the two classes. In percentage, it was 30% the use of English and it was 70% the use of Bahasa Indonesia. In the time and classroom management, the teacher managed the time full for teaching in the
two classes effectively. The teacher also managed the two classes very well so
the students of the class X AKT A and X AKT B were not bored. They were interested to the
teaching learning process from opening to closing. Before closing the class X AKT A, the teacher
gave the students a homework but when in the class X AKT B the teacher did not
give the students a homework.
CHAPTER III
CLOSING
A. Conclusion
Based on the
result of the observation above, the teacher could teach the two classes very
well. The teacher explained the material in the two classes very well and
clearly. The students of the class X AKT A were active enough but the students
of X AKT B looked passive. The teacher taught the material based on the syllabus
and the lesson plan. The teacher also prepared the material systematically so
the teaching learning process could be conducted very well by the teacher. The
students of the class X AKT A and X AKT B could also receive the material
easily because the teacher taught the material clearly.
In the use of
language, the teacher used English and Indonesia in the two classes. In
percentage, it was 30% the use of English and it was 70% the use of Bahasa Indonesia. In the time and classroom management, the teacher managed the time full for teaching in the
two classes effectively. The material had been suitable with the syllabus and
the lesson pan. The teacher also managed the two classes very well so the students
of the class X AKT A and X AKT B were not bored.
They were interested to the teaching learning process from opening to closing.
